Information about heat development on luminaire housings

Halogen bulbs and metal halide discharge lamps (HID) operate at a high tem- perature and can cause their respective luminaire housings to heat up. The latter may therefore only be touched when they have cooled down. Adjustable luminaires or lamp heads which do not have an insulated adjusting handle or if, during operation with the maximum wattage lamp, the maximum permitted housing temperature is exceeded on the obvious adjustment point, must also be installed out of the reach of hands. Our LED retrofit lamps are available as a low temperature alternative for most of our halogen luminaires.

Luminous flux

The total amount of light which is generated by a light source, given in Lumen (lm).

Luminous intensity

The luminous intensity is the luminous flux per room angle specified, it is given in Candela (cd).

Colour rendering index

The colour rendering index of a light source is described using the Ra Index (Colour Rendering Index). For light sources used indoors, a CRI of 80 or high- er is prescribed. Light sources for outdoor use must have a CRI of at least 65.

Light colour

The light colour of a light source is given in Kelvin (K).

Standard LED

This is the classic version of an LED (3 mm or 5 mm LED). These were origi- nally designed for indication purposes, e. g. in instrument panels.

Standard SMD LED

SMD stands for Surface Mounted Device. It is a compact LED without wire connectors, rather with direct soldering onto the PCB. SMDs are available in various sizes and are well suited for illumination purposes.

PowerLED

A PowerLED is a powerful LED with 1W or more power. It places increased demands on the current stability and therefore has to be used with constant current sources. If multiple LEDs are connected, they must therefore be con- nected in series. Connecting in parallel is not permitted. In addition, please pay attention to the installation sequence so that LEDs are not exposed to high currents for short periods of time as they could be damaged. In general, the following applies: First completely connect the secondary circuit (LEDs to the driver), then connect the primary circuit (driver to the power source).

Chip On Board LED (COB LED); Flat LEDs

These are LEDs in an extremely flat design. The advantage of COB LEDs is that they have good heat dissipation for technical implementation with cool surfaces, providing the possibility of high luminous efficiency with a long ser- vice life.

Stainless steel 304

(1.4301) Has good corrosion resistance suited to natural environmental media (water, urban and rural atmospheres) without the presence of significant con- centrations of chlorine and salt. 1.4301 is, however, not suitable for use in ar- eas where there is contact with sea water or salt water or a salt-laden atmos- phere, nor for use in swimming pools or similar environments.

Stainless steel 316

(1.4404) Has excellent corrosion resistance suited to natural environmental media (water, urban and rural atmospheres) as well as in industrial areas with moderate concentrations of chlorine and salt, in the food and pharmaceutical industries and in the agricultural food sector. 1.4404 is not sea water resistant.
